The Tudors were very exciting times. The two families the Yorks and the Lancasters finally stopped fighting over who would be King and instead the fighting was all about religion – or who was really the boss. A king or the Pope. Henry VIII thought the King and so changed the whole county’s religion and took all the money from the churches. His daughter thought the Pope and burnt people who disagreed. Henry VII and the start of the Tudors
Henry VII or Henry Tudor did not have a strong line to the throne but after defeating Richard III, and marrying Elizabeth of York his reign started a 117 year period of Tudors. Mary was very religious and wanted to do everything she could to bring back the Catholic church. If this mean killing the people who were against it she would do it. There is evidence she ordered people to be burnt at the stake for their…
Henry VIII and his wives
Henry VIII had six wives and he didn’t let them leave him easily. Two were beheaded!, two divorces and one died. Only one outlived him as his wife and she did not live a long and happy life (perhaps a short and happy one). You have probably learnt the song at school. Divorced beheaded died, divorced, beheaded and survived. Three of his children ruled after him and only one of those had a long and…
