The Stuarts came from Scotland when Elizabeth had no children and the Tudor period ended. James I was James VI of Scotland. Under the Stuarts the Union Jack (after James) was created as England and Scotland were ruled by the same Monarch (but separately). The Stuarts ended the Monarchy in England when Charles I was beheaded for treason.
